About Us...
eclectricity was the name of a website founded the insanely funny and talented Meredith Robbins many years ago. I'm not sure if she ever defined exactly what the site would be, but it was basically a online journal of different humorous stories, reviews, photography and poetry. Along with a number of other people, I used to contribute a few silly articles to the site here and there, and loved it as a way to express some of my sense of humor in written form. Even though Meredith stopped updating the site a while back, I always kind of had the idea in the back of my head to revive the name of the site in some way for my own website someday. So I have to thank her profusely for letting me use the name!
While my vision of the site will vary from the original eclectricity, I hope to
preserve the sensibilities and sense of humor of it. Primarily my hope is that this site will be a semi-regularly updated collection of my own medium-length, (hopefully) humorous stories. I really don't want to
think of it as a blog, since A) I hate blogs and B) I don't really have
enough of a life to sustain a blog. The stories here will more just be my
random thoughts on the world and slightly embellished tales from my own life.
I also hope to keep the articles somewhat light-hearted and avoid a lot of the cynicism and mean-spiritedness (is that a word? you know what i mean...) you see in a lot of humor nowadays. For now, I'll probably be the only one writing (so you're all stuck with just me!), but down the road I may include some submissions as well.
While I don't really have a model for the style that I write in, my touchstones for what I find funny include sources as varied as The Onion, VH1's Best Week Ever, Chappelle's Show, the teleplays of John Scwartzwelder, the various members of Respecto Montalban, and the writings of pre-Time magazine Joel Stein. Because as we all know, post-Time Joel just plain blows.
So that's the story. Hopefully a spendid time will be had by all...
